Since the coronavirus outbreak in 2019, the development of many different industries were influenced by the coronavirus pandemic, however, not all industries were in a downtrend continued to fall but some industries were in the opposite direction and even have been booming in the past three years. According to The New York Times, it was said that Americans' demand for the canned foods were staying in a slow and steady drop level before 2020 because of more and more people are prefer to focus on the fresh foods. Since the demand have dropped noticeably, it results in that some Canmaker brands had to close their plants, such as the General Mills stopped its soup plants in 2017. However, now the market situation has totally changed with the effect of COVID-19, the pandemic has caused a great demand on canned food to meet the needs of the American people, which directly result in the canned food market had a growth at approximately 3.3% in 2021, and offer more hiring and better pay for production workers as well.
Although with the coronavirus pandemic effect mentioned above, the truth is consumer’s appetite for canned goods didn't undiminished and they still have a rigid demand on canned food in the region, and the reason caused this phenomenon is because of American's growing need for convenience foods owing to their hectic lifestyles. According to the study by Technavio, it points out that demand for canned food in the region will contribute to 32% of the global market during the time from 2021 to 2025.
Technavio also pointed out the other several reasons that result in more consumers are more dependent on canned food, such as apart from the convenience advantage, canned food can be cooked more quickly and easier to be prepared, and good food preservation, etc. As the Boulder City Review said, canned food is a good source that consumers can get minerals and vitamins, take the canned beans as an example, it's a reliable source that consumers can get protein, carbohydrates, as well as the all-important fiber.
