With the development of pet food industry and the rise of the e-commerce across the globe, the Chinese government has adopted the corresponding policies and regulations, and lifts some relevant ban on wet pet food imports of avian origin. For those pet food manufacturers from different countries who do international trade with China, that's good news indeed in a way.
According to China’s General Administration of Customs announcement on February 7, 2022, it is announced that exported canned pet compound food (wet food), as well as exported pet snacks and other commercially sterilized canned pet food of avian origin will not be affected by avian-related epidemics and will be allowed to be exported to China. This change applies to such exported pet food products going forward.
With respect to the commercial sterilization, the administration specified that: after moderate sterilization, canned food does not contain pathogenic microorganisms or non-pathogenic microorganisms that can reproduce in it at normal temperature. Such condition is called commercial sterility. And Feed China Registered License Center offers free evaluation, by specific production processes and formula, of pet food products intended for export into China.
Up to now there are 19 countries have been approved and allowed to export pet food products to China, which including Germany, Spain, U.S., France, Denmark, Austria, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, Argentina, Netherlands, Italy, Thailand, Canada, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil, Australia, Uzbekistan and Belgium.
